An open letter to the President of the United States

I originally wrote and posted this to my facebook account the day after the election, as such, some of the language is a little out of date, but the general thrust, I believe, is still valid.   I have also made  a few corrections and added some links to lend support to some of the points.  The final change was changing the original "I, Citizen" signature to that of my own, however if you agree with the following, please share it.  Add your own name if you like.  Or, if you disagree, please comment as to why. 

Sir,

By now it is clear that you have secured your reelection, whether this was due to your political deftness, your challenger's ineptitude, ignorance on the part of the electorate or some combination thereof is a matter for pundits to decide.

I am not a pundit, I am a mere citizen. A citizen who is gravely concerned about the future of individual rights and economic health in the United States.

In this time of celebration amongst your supporters, I feel it is my duty to explain why I did not support your reelection and will not support you in your second term. The following non-exhaustive list is in no particular order;

You have bombed Libya without congressional approval and expanded the drone bombing campaigns in several countries.

You have raised tariffs on Chinese manufactured Solar Panels ensuring that Americans are forced to pay more for solar power.

You have shown profound ignorance of simple economic realities.

You have raised significant taxes on the middle class in the form of the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act.

You have forced Americans to purchase a private product, whether they want to or not.

You have increased the national debt by upwards of 4 trillion dollars and shown zero leadership on how to address the nation's unfunded liabilities.

You have subsidized or bailed out many firms which by rights should have been left to fix themselves or have their assets redeployed to more productive sectors of the economy.

You have executed at least two American citizens without the benefit of a trial.

You have expanded the role and number of "Czars", the very name of which should send shivers up the spine of anyone who abhors dictatorship.

You have raided many medical marijuana dispensaries, and continued the failed war on drugs with rabid abandon.

You have renewed the "Patriot Act" and have continued to conduct warrant-less wiretaps among other abuses.

You have overseen the deaths of over 1,500 American servicemen in Afghanistan when it is clear that the government of that country is corrupt and undeserving of our blood and treasure.

You have demonstrated gross incompetence in the matters of the Benghazi terrorist attack and Operation Fast and Furious.

You have maintained a "kill list" which includes American citizens.

To be fair, many of the above violations of the Constitution and, indeed, human decency, occurred under many Presidents of the past, including your immediate predecessor. And, it is also true that Congress at various times bears much of the responsibility as well. But you sir, are the incumbent President. To paraphrase Truman, the buck stops with you. That unscrupulous elected officials and bureaucrats prior to your administration got away with their misdeeds is a great scandal and a national shame. But it is beside the point.  You and your Administration, that is to say, your cronies, are guilty of the same crimes and you should be held accountable. 

I do not expect to sway you or anyone else, it is my experience that people would generally prefer to remain in a state of ignorant bliss than to face unpleasant facts.
Indeed, I expect to lose many friends because of this letter. On the other hand, it can never be said that I, for one, was not silent. I did not consent to your continued warfare and crony welfare. I did not sacrifice my freedom willingly or quietly, unlike so many Americans. Quite the opposite, I declare that I will never give up my freedoms and I will do everything within my power to peaceably oppose you and anyone who attempts to take my beloved liberty away from me, regardless of party or person. You have nothing to fear if you but leave me be!

Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium.
