As you can see, there is some news about the idiots in Washington on the left, an article about a girl who lost weight on the right and right below no less than three items on the "Royal" pregnancy, including "advice" from Snooki, perhaps the most unintelligent skank on television since Anna Nicole Smith. Why would CNN give that stupid attention-whore a forum on, what is supposed to be, a respectable news organization? As for the girl "fighting" obesity, I will first say I was not aware one had to "fight" obesity. I was under the impression that a sensible diet and exercise would suffice to reduce weight. Silly me. Apparently it requires a great battle, a Rocky-like bout between human (Rocky Balboa) and fat (Apollo Creed). Obviously, using the word "fight" when the action in question isn't an actual conflict is a pet peeve of mine...but I'll drop it. But I wonder how long it will be before CNN posts a story about the dangers of teen "body image issues". Oh wait, they already have. Here too. No wonder kids are confused. On CNN.com one day, they talk about the dangers of peer and societal pressure to lose weight and on another day, they talk about the dangers of not losing weight. Rational adults understand there is a balance when it comes to personal health, but don't expect CNN to clarify the matter. To be fair, the first article on eating disorders is actually pretty reasonable, which one might expect given that CNN didn't write it; the Mayo Clinic did.
Lastly, there are the clowns that are on the air. I can forgive Wolf Blitzer's hilarious gaff, and I can even let his dismal performance on Jeopardy slide. In fact, for the sake of brevity, I will skip Wolf, Anderson and a few others altogether to go straight for the jugular; Piers Morgan.
First, let me say I welcome immigrants. America, and indeed the world, is richer because (some) people have been free to cultivate their talents in nations like the United States. So I will not attack Piers for being foreign. Indeed, his British-ness is probably the only thing keeping him on the air, considering how poor his ratings are. It really isn't even his left-leaning sensibilities that bothers me; I expect that from CNN. It is his smugness. It is the childish smirk he makes when he thinks he has said something clever. It is the intellectual box that he lives in. Although his methods differ, he reminds me of a left-wing Bill O'Reilly. That is to say, Morgan makes no genuine attempt to see how the other side of an issue thinks, which is what a talk show host is supposed to do. Rather, he waits to insert his own commentary over that of the guest, not in trying to further the conversation, but to sound superior. Lots of talk show hosts do this, but Morgan is unnaturally annoying when he does it. Of course, all of this is just my opinion, but I am not alone. You know there is something odd when Jeremy Clarkson, Omarosa Manigault, Connie Mack and Penn Jillette all find fault, in one way or another, with Morgan. Given that Morgan had a long history of vexing antagonism, its a wonder why CNN would hire him. Oh wait, I know why. Because it's CNN. Thankfully, Morgan's smugness does not go unchallenged.
WHAM!
I had not heard of Carol Roth before, but now she is, at least in this respect, my new hero. Thank you Carol. Read more about her here.
